2nd Great Grandparents

Around 1846 Wesley Hall moved approximately 125 miles west from Bureau County, Illinois, to Louisa County, Iowa, along with his wife, Elizabeth Jones, and their three children. They had another child in Iowa City in 1848, but Elizabeth died on 19 May 1851 at the age of 29.

Wesley Hall and Elizabeth Jones had the following children:

1. Charles W. Hall was born in 1841 in Bureau County.

2. William Fletcher Hall was born 23 June 1844 in Bureau County.

3. Sidney E. Hall was born on 8 August 1845 in Iowa. Sidney died 2 March 1924 in Frontier County, Nebraska, at 78 years of age. Sidney served in the military in the G.A.R., Co. A, 9 Iowa Cavalry in 1864.

4. Mary E. Hall was born in 1847 in Iowa. She married Samuel A. Buffington.  Samuel was born Iowa 1847 and was the son of Samuel W. Buffington and Nancy Elizabeth Suddard.

Three years after the death of his wife he married a widow, Nancy Elizabeth Studdard Buffington, on 2 November 1854 in Louisa County. Nancy had been born in Salem County, North Carolina, on 1 January 1824.

Wesley Hall and Nancy Elizabeth Suddard had the following children:

5. Zachariah F. Hall was born Louisa County, IA 1854.

6. John Asbury Hall was born 18 January 1856.

7. Jasper D. Hall was born 11 February 1859.

8. Joseph Hall was born Iowa 1859.

9. Lucy E. Hall was born 15 December 1861.

They lived in Louisa County, but they did move around a bit. They stayed in Columbus City for a few years, then moved approximately 230 miles northwest to Elm Grove before 1860. Then they moved about 120 miles east to Marshall before 1870. Then back to Elm Grove by 1880. Finally they moved back to Columbus City by 1895.  She died in Columbus City on 25 June 1902 and he died there on 4 Jan 1912. They both were interred in the Columbus City Cemetery.

I haven't yet found many footprints from his 64 years in Louisa County. He may have been a farmer or a minister, or both. A study of historic documents should provide more information.
