The Hinman Branch

A great deal of the Hinman family history and genealogy has been published over the years. That history will be summarize here with references to more detailed accounts, including links when possible. We will also present the genealogical data as it relates to our branch of that tree.

Sgt. Edward Hinman was the first of our branch in this country. We will follow our ancestors from him down through the years to our mother, Jean Lory Hinman.

The Hinman Family Association Website is a valuable source of information. The Hinman Family Association has spent more than thirty years studying the genealogy and history of the Hinman family. This website, along with its referenced works, provides the most complete presentation of Hinman family information available.

The primary reference for Hinman family information was written by Connecticut Secretary of State Royal R. Hinman in 1856. He published a great Hinman compendium called “A Family Record of the Descendants of Sergt. Edward Hinman”. I have not been able to locate an digital electronic copy of that book, but it is included in its entirety in his more complete book A Catalogue of the Names of the Early Puritan Settlers of the Colony of Connecticut starting on page 806. Clicking on its name will link to a Google eBook which can be downloaded and read on a iPad. I have also attached a PDF version in which the Hinman information starts on page 847.

Just click on the following link for the PDF: A_catalogue_of_the_names_of_the_early_Pu.pdf.

I have attached two other PDF containing Hinman family histories:
