There is some uncertainty about who did what with whom among the early Jamestown families - Halls, Bollings, Rolfes, Brodnaxes, Poythresses, and Greens -  and it is not exactly clear how the various Hall families in Virginia were related to each other.

John Hall, was part of a family that was well established as merchants and ship owners with offices in England and Barbados. He lived on the west branch of the Nansemond River in Isle of Wight County, Virginia.

Isaac Hall and Instance Hall lived nearby on the south side of the James River, in Surry and Prince George counties.

We descend from Isaac Hall, but the name John Hall keeps appearing among Isaac's decentants so they may have been related.

Our Ancestors in the New World

There were many Hall ancestors involved in the Settlement at Jamestown.

Early written records show that George, Hugh, Jeffery, John, Christopher, Susan, and Thomas Hall were all living there by February, 1623. They had originally come from Essex County, England.

Isaac Hall had a neighbor named Lewis Green, and they were both on the Vestry of the Bristol Parish Church in Prince George County.

In 1724 Isaac Hall married Lewis Green's daughter, Judith, in Surry, VA, and they had a son named William.  Unfortunately, Isaac died when William was four and Judith died when he was six. It is not known who raised William.
